Virtual Coaching & Consulting

It's more fun to be good at kayaking, and your progress is limited by awareness, not time.

- Just you, your POV camera, and a good wifi connection
- No 3rd person video or external filming necessary.

What do you need to get the most out of it?

Despite what many first think when considering video coaching, the most useful video review comes from Point of View (POV) footage from a GoPro or similar POV action camera. If I can see your paddle and boat in the video, I can tell what your body is doing, even how you're shifting your weight, using your legs, and reading your line. Outside of video, you only need wifi so we can talk and I can share my screen.

What will you get from it?

Over the course of our session, I'll talk with you one on one, frame by frame and outline what went well and what maybe didn't. Together, we can draw over the video and look at options that you likely didn't even know you had. I will identify key trends, skills, concepts, and techniques that you need to work on.

I'll simplify my feedback into one or two key areas of focus so you'll leave our session knowing exactly what to work on.

Then I'll give you homework - drills, warm-ups, concepts to learn, a video to watch, and whatever else you'll need to practice on your own. You'll leave with a plan, knowing exactly how to move forward.

Together, we'll map out your progression, monitor your progress, and set reasonable goals to keep you learning, growing, and having as much fun as possible while staying safe and getting closer to your whitewater dreams and goals.

Are there any other benefits?

Yes! Consistent Video Coaching clients receive priority booking for in-person instruction, can become eligible for discounted rates on in-person instruction, and receive priority messaging access to discuss your progress, check-in, and ask questions as you go.

Paddlers can't see their own mistakes so they are repeated unconsciously, slowly becoming muscle memory and habit. I’ll analyze your video with you and break down what’s actually happening. We'll find trends, holes in your skill or understanding, and I'll help you figure out what habits to break, what techniques to change and how you can practice.

It often surprises people to learn that from only POV video, I can see your subtle weight changes, lower body engagement, and the nuances of your paddling, decision-making, and boat control. If you want to get better fast or just un-stuck, video coaching is a worthwhile investment that will boost your progression, and it's much cheaper than in-person instruction.
