People think it's about adrenaline, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The risk isn't the reason or the point, but it does make kayaking deeply personal.

Adrenaline makes things happen too fast. It causes mistakes and leaves you feeling exhausted and stressed. Adrenaline makes it harder to think, harder to make decisions, harder to perform, and harder to survive. Adrenaline is what happens when you haven't done your homework; it's rooted in fear.

Flow is different. It's the overcoming of fear with love, connection, and practiced skill. Flow makes things slow down, improves your performance, promotes clear and crisp thinking, and leaves you feeling energized and balanced. For one small moment, time distorts and things slow down. I feel superhuman. Any fear is washed away as my s
kill takes over and the best of me comes out. I'm suddenly immersed in a feeling of oneness and communion with the water and natural world. That’s flow, not adrenaline.
